Arctic Air

The arctic air has definitely arrived. Most schools in northern Minnesota are closed as windchills approach -50 F.

The temperature at 4:30 this morning at the Maple Grove Hospital was -24.8 with a windchill of -40 F. Against the urging of my wife I decided to go out and get in a run. I ran for 50 minutes and was actually able to stay quite warm with the exception of my rear end! I hope I don't end up with a chapped ass. Running in the cold and staying warm is not as difficult as many would think. Also, there is this misconception out there that you can freeze your lungs. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing that. Granted the cold air can be dry and it can irritate your throat although I've never really had any issues with this.

I spent some time last night going through gear and getting things ready for trip up to the North Shore. My pogies were delivered last night so now I shouldn't have any issues with cold hands while I'm riding up north. Thanks Doug for the great advice!

Anyway, it's cold, but get out and enjoy it!

You are simply amazing ... or something. geez. no way. We had MN temps today and I was sure I would lose a finger or 2 and that was just running to and from my car.

I plan on keeping all of my fingers and toes. I don't want them ending up in some Yukon Jack drink like they do in Dawson in the Yukon Territory.
