Well, once again luck, mojo, or whatever you want to call it was not with me nor the rest of the amigos who were hoping to get into this year's Leadville 100 mountain bike race. The online letter went as follows...
Dear Leadville Trail 100 Family,
We deeply regret that we were unable to accept your application into
the 2010 Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race. We really wish we
could accommodate every interested rider, but we simply can’t. Our
goal and primary obligation is to offer every racer the nation’s
highest quality athletic experience with the utmost degree of safety,
medical care and racer support. The ever increasing numbers of
returning racers and new applicants are testimony we are meeting our goal.
We do not keep a waiting list....
The letter goes on to explain that if you participate in the Carmichael Training Systems 2-day mountain bike camps you can have an automatic entry into the race. Now this is a great option, but it also comes with a great price tag. A $1,250 price tag!
Of course Life Time Fitness is also offering their "essay" contest as a way to gain entry into the race.
So, I guess once again the "Amigos" are losers...Bullshit! We have plenty of other alternatives and I will now for certain enter Ore to Shore once again this year.
We meet Sunday to plan our race calendar and have a couple of Bloody Marys.

I think you can put most of the blame on Lance Armstrong for bringing such high profile attention to this event. Every time I turn around the last few months I find another person that is saying they are entering Leadville. The number of entries this year had to be through the roof.
I totally agree. It was already evident last year.
We all knew that our chances of getting in would be rather slim, but it's still somewhat of a let down after all of the anticipation and excitement.
I'll just have to come up with my own endurance gravel rides this summer and there are plenty of other races to do. I may even plan a trip out to CO just to ride in the mountains for enjoyment.
hey man Im a looser too. we could do 24hrs of leadville?
hm.. after hearing about the little prank of last summer... I'm hesitant to believe that you are really a Leadville loser!
AND, I do hope you and some of the pals make it to Ore to Shore!
What gives? Why don't they just use those "spots" they have saved for the Carmichael thing or the essay for the regular people who've been there from the beginning. THe everyday racers?
Go Dave Wiens!
