Addicted

Today was simply stellar. Awoke at 4 AM this morning to walk the dog and go for a run. This was my first run since becoming ill last month. I felt great! Returned home after 45 minutes feeling like I could have easily just kept going and going. Heart rate remained low the entire time with no ill effects.

This evening I went on a fantastic little ride. I basically circumnavigated Eagle Lake twice. Once on the lake itself, following the shoreline. Then again while riding the trail system.
It's a very cool and surreal experience riding across a frozen lake in the dark of night. I couldn't get enough of it. Some portions were difficult, particularly the ice. I have come to a reasonable conclusion that ice is not my friend. I have gone down more in the past 2 weeks than I have in the past 20 years. This evening I hit the deck rather hard twice. First time was an above average face plant after hitting an ice ridge and going ass over tea kettle. It was deserving of at least a score of 9.8 and I'm sure fishermen driving off the lake at the time got a good chuckle. The second time was similar, but I just landed on my left hip and elbow. Now both hips are bruised and sore. The thaw we had last week really created some rough stuff in several areas around the lake. All it takes is
to hit one of these little ridges with your front tire. Next thing you know your slamming your head on the deck. I'm sure I'll be sore in the morning. I'm planning on another early rise and run. Good night.

What kind of tires are you running on that lake ice? Sounds like you need some Nokian Extremes. I used to be terrified of glare ice, now I love the stuff. I hardly ever fall on ice these days. Good studs are worth every penny.

If you're already using them and you're still falling ... well, slow down!

OK, how many times do you have to hit your head against a wall before you realize it hurts and you should stop, SFr?

Thanks Tim and Kenny,
Actually, I've just started this madness and will definitely be purchasing a set of studded tires for
next year. Believe me...I have slowed down.

Kenny,
I don't know what the hell I'm thanking you for.

Why the hell not? What do I have to lose besides fingers and toes?
