Maybe The Deck Furniture Can Come In...

Bella was anxious to get her walk in this morning. The couple of inches of fresh snow provided her with a good deal of fun. She loves running in the snow which leads me to believe her two blue eyes possible come from an American Eskimo breed somewhere in her lineage.

I hit the Luce Line trail today and rode about 28 miles. No need for studded tires as of yet, but those days are coming. I felt really good, but generated a good of sweat which cause me to get chilled. The windchills this afternoon were hovering right around 0 degrees. Upon returning to the trail head I had a 1/4 of a water bottle filled with orange ginger slush even though I was keeping it inside my Gortex jacket. While out on the trails I encountered a couple other groups of riders which was nice to see.

It always feels great to get out and ride in the cold. My only concern is that after a long workout in the cold weather my knees are always painful. Today was no different. I wore knee warmers, Pearl Izumi amphib tights, with PI wind pants over those...still, my knees were sore afterwards. Old and becoming arthritic???? God, I hope not.

I know that some my cycling bretheren will give me crap about "no helmet". Oh well. I was more concerned with warmth than anything else.
Plus the riding was somewhat slow and non-technical.

I should also point out that I was scolded by Patti for going into the cold weather with a sore throat. I think my glands may also be swollen so tomorrow I'll do Matt's spin class in Chanhassen.

It looks like winter is here to stay, so maybe I can bring in the deck furniture. I don't anticipate too many nights sitting out and looking at stars.

Love your blog, "Vito". The photos and stories remind me of time spent with you up on the Sturgeon trail or the river bank jumping into deep snow... Hoping to get out and ride tomorrow at Theo, and will have to try the bottle in the jacket trick. Mine tends to freeze, too. We have to get together for some porketta and a beverage soon. Maybe a ride too, but you have to let this "old man" keep up. Peace, my friend.

We'll have to make some time over the holidays to break bread. I do miss you guys. I hope and pray that all is well and that you enjoy this time leading up to the holidays.

I'm so jealous of the cold, snowy rides. Cool reflection in your sunglasses.
