Photo Op

Cameras die and my trusty little Olympus Stylus 850 SW has gone the way of so many other cameras. I had that it was possibly just the battery, but apparently it was far more serious than that. So, now I am left to search for another camera that will serve me just as well and provide me with some very fine image quality. These are the candidates as of this evening...

The Panasonic LX5 comes highly recommended by fellow blogger, cyclist, and very good photographer. The Leica lense obviously means great image quality, but it is a bit pricey. The Canon S95 also comes highly recommended and received many positive reviews. Good in low light as is the Panasonic. Very good image quality and the nifty little control ring up front is rather nice. All adjustments immediately at your finger tips. Plus it's about $100 cheaper than the Panasonic.

Well, then of course there is the new improved Olympus Stylus Tough 6020. Hey, they say it's tough and I believe them. My last one was and this is now the camera I'm seriously considering. I guess for what I'm using it for all the tough features seem to be the way to go. That little Canon sure seems fine also.

Panasonic LX5 is probably the best alternative, because of the image quality and wide angled zoom. Canon S95 has equally good image quality, but not as wide angle on the zoom. It is cheaper and a lot smaller, though. The other alternatives will have less good image quality, though it might still be good enough.

I've got an Olympus Stylus 770 SW (stands for shock and water) and it has been bullet proof. Fits easily in any pocket, 7.1 megapixels and is so waterproof that the manual instructs you to clean schmutz off the lens by dunking it in a bucket of water and turning it on.

Just my $.02 and no, I don't have any relationship to Olympus other than really liking this camera.

WheelDancer, I had the Olympus 850 SW and it was a great camera that served me well. It saw 3 years of very hard use on the bike. However, I've always been a Canon person. I decided to go with the S95 primarily because of the image quality. Time will tell how durable it will be.

I'll post some new images soon.

Yeti, I looked at and deliberated for some time between the LX5 and S95. In the end the Canon won. I liked the fact that it was $100 cheaper and still provided a good quality image. The compactness of the Canon was also a big factor. Hopefully it prove to be a good choice. I've always liked Canon products.

I love the Lumix cameras and that model looks tasty.
