That's A Very Nice Rack!!

However, my dilemma is which rack is the right rack for me. I'm currently looking at two different racks that both appear to be of very good quality.

The Old Man Mountain Cold Spring
Load Capacity: 50 lbs.
Weight: 610 g
Price: $164.99

The Freeload Sport Rack
Capacity: 25 kg (55 lbs.)
Weight: 810 g (with med. length struts)
Price: $156

Both racks have the same weight capacity and the price is relatively close. Both are available at through local bike shops or through QBP, but the Freeload is manufactured in New Zealand and the OMM Cold Spring is made in the good ole' US of A. Ideally I would prefer to buy American, but if I can get one rack that fits several bikes including the Pugs then it's a no-brainer. However, I'm waiting to hear from Freeload if their rack is indeed compatible for use with fatbikes. They have a photo of a Pugsley fitted with a rack, but I'm unsure if it is a prototype or is already on the market.

The one concern I had about the Freeload is durability, but from what I've read and seen there doesn't appear to be any problems with this particular rack and its design. I also think it gives me a good deal more flexibility.

Bill - I have the OMM on my Mukluk and am very happy with it.

Don't know about it's compatability with my regular mtn bike though but I am sure they could answer that question for you.

OMM rear Cold Springs on my Pugs, wanting a front C.S.
No messing around with mods. I told them it was for a Pugs, and they sent all the right hardware. Cleareance is also a non issue.

That other brand of rack is kind of cool looking!!

Peace, Joe

They don't have one on the market that fits a Pugs. The one in the photo is prototype. They had discussions with Surly at Interbike and may have another prototype sometime soon. I may get an opportunity to test one of them out.

That would definitely be kind of cool. I think I may get a Freeloader for my El Mariachi.
