I Just Want to Celebrate...

another day of living. I just want to celebrate another day life. These are the words to an old Rare Earth song from 1971. I have most of their songs on my iPod, but today this one really stuck a chord. I was well into hour three on the Pugsley and the trails were getting softer with each passing mile when the song came on. I realized how fortunate I am to be able to do the things I love to do while my body and my mind creep up on 53 years of age. I also realize how fortunate I am to have a wife that tolerates all this cycling nonsense.

Rather than sleeping late today I was up at 5 a.m. and on the trails by 6:30. A little more than four and a half hours later I found myself back at the car ready to go home. The temperature had warmed nearly 20 (F) since I started at the beginning of the day. Along with the warm-up the trails were getting pretty soft and beat up. My legs had that delightfully tired feeling and I was ready for some hot coffee.

Not sure on my mileage because I haven't checked my Garmin, but I have to assume it was around 30+ miles and I would guess my average speed was a whopping 7-8 mph. Not bad for a Sunday morning on the trails.

Exactly. It sounds just like my early morning rides, only much colder.
